Mansfeld's World Database of Agricultural and Horticultural Crops
Summary

Based on the third edition of Mansfeld's world manual of agricultural and horticultural crops (Hanelt, in press.), which was prepared by 20 different authors an internet-searchable database was developed. Mansfeld's World Database of Agricultural and Horticultural Crops is containing various information on about 6000 cultivated plants species and many infraspecific taxa. In total about 35.000 scientific names (10.000 accepted names + 25.000 synonyms) and about 40.000 folk names from over 80 different languages are available. Based on over 8000 literature references information on the taxonomy, distribution (wild distribution, area of cultivation), uses, wild relatives and history for each species is given. The work is part of the Federal Information System Genetic Resources (BIG) project, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Technology (BMBF).
